Al Thumama Stadium
A 44,400-seat stadium in southern Doha whose circular facade is a woven cap — the gahfiya worn across the Arab world — turned into architecture by Qatari architect Ibrahim M. Jaidah.

Design
Ibrahim M. Jaidah took the gahfiya, the knitted cap worn under the headdress across the Arab world, and built its weave at stadium scale: the circular white facade is a lattice that reads as fabric from the approach and filters the sun on the concourses. The design is deliberately more than a football ground — the complex carries handball, volleyball, basketball and swimming facilities, running and cycling paths, shops and service points for the surrounding district. After the tournament the capacity is being reduced, with the removed seats going to sports projects.
Events
Al Thumama opened on 22 October 2021 with the Amir Cup final, then hosted six matches of the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021. At the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 it staged eight matches, including the quarter-final in which Morocco beat Portugal to become the first African side to reach a World Cup semi-final.
