The ribbon board (or fascia display) is the long, narrow LED strip that circles an arena bowl between seating decks. During a hockey, basketball or college game it earns its keep as sponsor inventory: brand loops, momentary takeovers on a goal, and full-ring effects that pull the crowd into the moment. Big-league buildings drive their ribbons from broadcast-grade control rooms; below that level, a much simpler answer works: ribbon board software on one Windows PC.
What the software does for a ribbon
- Sponsor loops. Playlists rotate the sponsor package for the whole game; scenes place different content at different segments of the ring simultaneously.
- Game-moment takeovers. Goal, time-out, power play, halftime — one-click quick actions cut the whole ribbon to the moment, then return to the loop exactly where it left off.
- Any ribbon geometry. Single continuous ring, split ribbons per deck, or a band that wraps onto a second line — you enter module size and count, the content auto-fits with no black seams.
- Proof of play. Per-exposure timestamped logs, collected into per-sponsor reports your partnerships team can send with the invoice.
Where it fits (and where it doesn't)
College arenas, junior and minor-league buildings, practice facilities and mid-size venues rarely justify a control-room playout stack for the ribbon alone. A software player is the right size: one PC wired to the ribbon's LED processor over HDMI, an operator with a browser, and the whole fascia is live. If your building already runs a show-control system for the main videoboard, the ribbon player coexists happily — it only occupies the PC and processor that drive the ribbon.

The player outputs standard full-screen video; the processor captures it like any source. That means no lock-in to the ribbon's panel brand — and when the building re-panels, the software, content library and sponsor reports survive unchanged.
